Frequently Asked Questions
What types of cargo do you accept?
We accept all types of cargo, from 40’ shipping containers to small boxes of household merchandise. We can handle vehicles, heavy equipment, and project cargo. Chilled and frozen cargo can be shipped from San Juan to the USVI. Live animals and plants can be shipped with proper documentation.
What information do I need to ship cargo between the USVI and Puerto Rico?
You will need a commercial invoice for the merchandise (in order to establish value and country of origin), as well as the name, address and phone number of the consignee. If you are shopping locally in Puerto Rico, a copy of the store receipt will suffice. Used household goods and personal items not for resale can simply be listed on an inventory.
Do I need a booking?
General cargo FROM Puerto Rico to the USVI does not require a booking. General cargo within the USVI and outbound to the BVI also does not require a booking. Simply bring it to us during regular receiving hours. Vehicles and oversized equipment, however, should be booked in advance to ensure we have space for them. Contact us to make a reservation.
If you are shipping cargo FROM the USVI TO Puerto Rico, you must make a booking. The weekly cutoff is Tuesday at noon. Please contact the main office to provide the necessary information. Click here for additional instructions and detailed information on requirements for incoming cargo.
Will my cargo need to clear Customs when it arrives?
Yes, it will, since Puerto Rico and the USVI are different customs territories. Cargo shipped between San Juan and the USVI (or BVI) does require both a customs clearance and payment of any applicable excise duties. Cargo shipped within the USVI (between St. Thomas and St. Croix and vice versa) does NOT require a clearance or any payment of duties.
Can you arrange for pickup and / or delivery of my cargo?
Yes, we can. We have a driver in Puerto Rico who can arrange to pick up your merchandise locally and bring it to our office – please call for details. Additionally, we have contact information for several local trucking companies in both St. Thomas and St. Croix that we work with regularly.
I am shipping furniture and household goods. Can you help me package them?
Yes. We have plenty of packing materials here, and people who are good at making and wrapping pallets. The only thing we cannot do is build crates. If you are shipping fragile items such as windows or granite, please have them properly packaged prior to delivery.
